Memories of Sound

Today after the kids piano lesson I spent some time talking to their wonderful and very talented piano teacher. I mentioned hearing and seeing shape note hymnals at my grandparents church as a child. At least I *think*they sang shape note, the written music definitely was and the way they sang traditional hymns sounded nothing like what I was hearing in the Methodist church where I grew up.

I came home and tried to find a  video to explain shape note, or sacred harp singing to the kids. This is a good intro if you're not sure what I'm talking about:
